EUMETSAT is upgrading EARS Core stations
In December 2019, KDA Spacetec signed a contract with EUMETSAT, for upgrading 3 EARS (EUMETSAT Advanced Retransmission Service) Core stations (2 x Maspalomas, 2 x Lannion and 2 x Svalbard).
KDA Spacetec will deliver new servers with new reception cards, MEOS™ Polar v5. KDA Spacetec will perform the installation and maintenance for the EARS Core stations to make them ready for the acquisition and distribution of the EPS-SG direct broadcast data.
The training and installation will take place in 2020.
"The Regional Data Services are provided by the EUMETSAT Advanced Retransmission Service (EARS), a network of Advanced High Resolution Picture Transmission (AHRPT) reception stations.
The EUMETSAT Advanced Retransmission Service (EARS) comprises nine separate data services: EARS-ASCAT, EARS-ATOVS, EARS-AVHRR, EARS-IASI, EARS-NWC, EARS-ATMS, EARS-CrIS, EARS-VIIRS and EARS-VASS.
They aim to provide users with high timeliness regional data from polar orbiting meteorological satellites, in support of Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP) and Nowcasting (NWC) applications.
This is achieved through a network of Direct Broadcast stations receiving and processing data and redistribution of products to users in near-real time."
