The Sentinel 1A satellite is being launched today from Europe’s Spaceport in Kourou, French Guiana, and Kongsberg Spacetec has delivered critical parts of the ground segment to ESA, and will as well provide important consultant services to ESA during the launch and commissioning.
The Consortium of Kongsberg Spacetec and Advanced Computer System has developed the Demodulator and Front-End Processing System (DFEP) for the Sentinels ground segments. Kongsberg Spacetec is the prime contractor.
DFEP top level overview
The DFEP system shall receive telemetry data from the X-band antenna systems and decode these into low level formats, archive and distribute the data to the Payload Data Ground Segment (PDGS). The DFEP system is already prepared to support the Sentinel 1 A/B, Sentinel 2 A/B and Sentinel 3 A/B.
The DFEP is based on field proven products, MEOS™ Capture High Rate Test Generator/High Rate Demodulator Front End Processor and MEOS™ Control manufactured by Kongsberg Spacetec and the Data Gate & Archive manufactured by Advanced Computer Systems.
Already, fourteen DFEP systems have been delivered to ESA and deployed at the operational sites in Matera Italy and Svalbard, and some systems have been deployed at the reference stations in Rome and Toulouse.
We are already preparing to deliver four additional systems to the site in Maspalomas Spain, and then the next step will delivered several systems to Alaska.
