NASA distribute ALOS data to the science community with Kongsberg Spacetec technology
NASA and JAXA (Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency) have come together to provide the north American science community with low latency Earth observation data from the Japanese ALOS satellite (Advanced Land Observing Satellite). NASA has purchased and deployed a Kongsberg Spacetec MEOS Capture HRDFEP (High Rate Demodulator & Front End Processor) system to support this important NASA / JAXA joint effort.
ALOS data is downlinked via NASA's TDRSS (Tracking and Data Relay Satellite System) communication system for reception at the NASA WSC ground station. The Kongsberg Spacetec
MEOS Capture HRDFEP
will autonomously capture, pre-process and distribute the ALOS data to a central site in Alaska for further distribution to end users. The MEOS Capture HRDFEP system has been chosen by NASA for its high performance, robustness and low latency data distribution. Fully autonomous operation also reduces operational cost over a conventionally commanded system.
