MEOS Polar System to support EUMETSAT EARS BRUS Services
Kongsberg Spacetec has successfully executed a contract with Kongsberg Satellite Services/EUMETSAT to enable the reception of data from NOAA and Metop satellites at Svalbard for the support of the EUMETSAT Advanced Retransmission Service (EARS) and Backup Reference User Station Service (BRUS). This delivery also includes the integration of the previously delivered operational NOAA HRPT and RT-AIP service in use by NOAA and EUMETSAT.
The EARS Service provides both Metop AHRPT and NOAA HRPT data from the MEOS Polar Reception Station at Svalbard. The received data is distributed to the EUMETSAT Product Processing Node (PPN) computer hosted in Tromsø. The PPN is the interface point for this service and the EUMETSAT EARS network. The Svalbard EARS Service is now under validation by EUMETSAT providing NOAA HRPT data.
For the BRUS Service, the complete set of application/instrument data available in the Metop HRPT downlink will be received, Viterbi decoded, Reed Solomon decoded and decrypted by the MEOS Polar Reception Station. The application/instrument data will be transferred to the EUMETSAT PPN in Tromsø.
