MEOS Ground Stations

MEOS™ Multi-mission Earth Observation System - Kongsberg Spacetec’s professional system for satellite data acquisition, archiving, processing, analysis and distribution.

MEOS

MEOS handles the entire chain from satellite to end-user. Flexible and modular design allows us to tailore each ground station to specific customers needs.

Modules to support new satellites may be added at any time by reconfiguring the running system.

Well documented interfaces allows the user to develop and add his own modules.

MEOS is based on open standards and follow the evolution in computer technology.

All software is based on linux as operating system platform.

  • The Front End System (Antenna, feed/downconverter and receiver/bitsynchroniser) receives the radio frequency downlink from the satellite.
  • The downlink is converted to very high frequency and fed to the receiver and bitsynchroniser for demodulation and regeneration of the serial data stream.
  • The decoded, serial data stream is fed to the Frame Synchroniser Board (FSB) of the Direct Ingest System (DIS).
  • The DIS performs Frame Synchronisation (FS) and pseudo noise removal, and writes raw data to the archive.
  • Raw data can also be processed to higher level data products using one of the instrument specific software modules called Satellite Instrument Processor (SIP).
  • With the Advanced Package the system will also have software modules to generate Value Added Products (VAP).
  • Products at all processing levels can be written to the product archive and distributed within the data network.
  • The MEOS View visualisation tool can display products with overlays. With the Advanced Package, MEOS View can integrate, for instance Numerical Weather Predictions (NWP) model data and weather radar images
  • All operations, such as data acquisition, processing and distribution can be scheduled for automatic execution. Set-up of the schedule is done from the MEOS Station Control System (SCS) using a Graphical User Interface (GUI) that is common to all MEOS systems. System status and telemetry, progress reports, event logs, and archive overview are available from the SCS.
